Law Firms' Settlement with Trump

         The New York Times reported that law firms agreed to give President Trump’s administration $600,000,000 in legal services. According to Google, the law firms can charge $800-$2000 per hour, say $1000 per hour, and also according to Google, the total number of lawyers employed by the law firms is probably between 10,000 to 20,000 lawyers. $600,000,000/$1000 = 600,000 of lawyer work hours. If the law firms employ 10,000-20,000 total lawyers, then that’s an average of about 30-60 hours, or about a week to a week and a half, of free work per lawyer.

        The work that these lawyers complete for President Trump could allow him to target other people more easily, or some lawyers could target other people on President Trump's behalf.

Globalization, Protectionism, in Fight for Liberty

            I was reading Fight for Liberty, which is a collection of essays that attempts to defend democracy and human rights, sometimes from a neoliberal perspective. I briefly read an excerpt where one of the essays defends globalization. Globalization is the increasing interconnectedness of trade across the historical borders of nations, and globalization contrasts with protectionism. Protectionism is the preservation of business interests by using barriers to slow trade across borders, sometimes with tariffs or other measures, that prevent the money or business interests of one country from being harmed by the money or business interests of another country.
